Tips To Conquer Your Inner Critic
Here are some tips to help you shush the inner critic when the voice becomes too loud.
1. Recognize the voice. Identify when your inner critic is speaking up. Is it during moments of self-doubt or when you're stepping out of your comfort zone?
2. Challenge the negativity! Question the validity of your inner critic's statements. Are they based off fear and self-judgement or based off facts? Write down your thoughts in one column and then on the other side write the opposite. Tell a better story, talk positively!
3. Replace with positivity! Replace negative self talk with positive affirmations such as "I am strong, I am capable, I am worthy, I am able to, I can"...just some examples. Remind yourself of your strengths, accomplishments and unique qualities.
4. Practice self-compassion. Treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Everyone makes mistakes, we are not perfect beings. It's okay to stumble, to have setbacks along the way. Acknowledge those setbacks or imperfect times, remind yourself of your goal and pick it right back up. One set back does not mean that it is the end of the world, it does not be you failed. You just figured out a way how NOT to do it. Remember, you are capable, and you are worthy. Tell yourself a different story, a better story, instead of what you "aren't".
5. Surround yourself with support! Get involved in a thriving and supportive community either in person or online. Seek out positive influences that help you to grow and lift you up. Tell people your goals, it will help you maintain consistency and help you achieve your goal.
6. Take action! Break your goals into smaller, manageable steps. Celebrate each milestone as you progress and use them as evidence to dismiss your inner critic's doubts.
